Lady Rebels Come Up Short Against No.1
Ranked South Carolina
After a hard fought battle the Ole Miss lady Rebels fell to the No. 1 team South Carolina 71-57. Things began to fall apart in the 4th quarter for the lady rebels, the lady gamecocks went on a 15-2 run while the last rebels had a scoring drought that lasted for 5:31 seconds.
They shot 1-7 of their last field goals. In the 1st quarter the Lady rebels trailed for the majority of the game but limited South Carolina to 43% from the field goal and 60% from the free throw line.
The Gamecocks were able to find more success from behind the arch than Ole Miss as they shot 44% from the 3 point line while the Lady rebels shot 22.2%. The lady gamecocks outscored the lady rebels on the board 42-33
Senior center and Gilliom trophy finalist Shakira Austin tied her career high with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist. Senior guard Lashaonda Monk was second in the team with 16 points,4 rebounds, and 3 forced turnovers.
Monk left late in the 4th quarter with dehydration.The Lady Rebels will be the no.4 seed heading into the SEC tournament in Nashville, Tn and will have a double-bye. They will resume play in the quarterfinals and will have to win 3 games to win the SEC Conference Title.
